What do a German maternity ward, rock climbing and absconding children have in common?

Well, for a mummy and a wife looking for a solution to a problem that affects all responsible parents, the answer is Tracelets. As a mother of 3, she explains "my husband was based in Germany so we mix a lot with the German population, but my 3 year old frequently runs off and I worried myself sick that he wouldn't be able to speak German to anyone who found him, how on earth would he be identified as my child? I needed something that an adult would be easily able to recognise and act upon".

"I tried several safety bracelets, but he refused to wear the disposable ones and the stronger velcro ones were just an excellent game to him to remove. He is so active I needed something waterproof, suncream proof, safe, reusable, and most importantly that would stay put until I wanted to take it off!"

The answer finally materialised when her third child was born. The German midwives used letter bracelets to spell the surnames of babies on the maternity ward. As she was putting away her daughter's bracelet some weeks later, she realised the solution was literally in her hands, and set about designing something similar, but using number beads to spell out her mobile phone number.

The result? A stylish bracelet that her son and his friends were soon clamouring to wear.  "When my friend told me her son wore his 24 hours a day, I decided this was worth taking further."

In a market where there is so much gimmickry aimed at the anxious parent, it is nice to think that the product we are selling will actually help children and adults to be safer.
